Rising Star of the Trades: Justin Herndon

Justin Herndon, SCALT’s Education Board Member, is making a lasting impact on the HVAC industry—both inside and outside the classroom. As Program Director of HVAC at Tri-County Technical College since 2014, Justin is passionate about equipping students with real-world skills that lead to rewarding careers. Serving the Upstate counties of Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens, he finds joy in watching students grow, succeed, and ultimately help their communities stay comfortable year-round.

“It’s always a joy to see students take the knowledge they’ve gained and apply it in the real world,” Justin shares. “That often means a new career path and a better future.”

Recognized as a SCALT Rising Star of the Trades, Justin brings a fresh, driven perspective to the Board of Directors. His leadership bridges education and industry—ensuring today’s classrooms produce tomorrow’s HVAC professionals.

Off campus, Justin is a proud husband and father. He and his wife recently welcomed an infant in late 2024, and he’s also raising two teens—ages 15 and 18. “Parenting is the funniest and hardest challenge of all,” he says. “Much like seeing my students grow, it’s amazing to watch our kids come into their own.”

With his commitment to education and community, Justin Herndon truly embodies what it means to be a SCALT Rising Star.
