The SC Association of Licensed Trades (SCALT) is pleased to announce the opportunity for a free four-hour webinar “Radon Services and Contractor Opportunities” to our membership on April 21 from 1pm-5pm. The course will be taught by instructor Bruce Snead from the Midwest Universities Radon Consortium at Kansas State University. This course will provide you with an overview of radon opportunities for contractors. South Carolina’s program is required by the national State Indoor Radon Program to promote national certification of radon professionals. There are opportunities to become certified through NRPP (National Radon Proficiency Program).

What is Radon? Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in the soil. It is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. after smoking. Any home can trap radon; moderate to high levels of radon have been found in homes across the state. The only way to know if a particular home has a radon issue is to test. High levels of radon in a home can be addressed with mitigation. Most of the radon professionals in South Carolina are based in the Upstate, which has at times been an issue for homeowners in other parts of the state seeking radon services.

Course Description: This four-hour online webinar will engage current radon professionals and interested contractors in evaluating business and individual leadership opportunities regarding radon services. Important mitigation concepts and techniques for new construction, existing homes and system performance diagnostics as well as training needs and radon standards and policy initiatives will be reviewed. Emphasis will be placed on benefits for businesses involved or looking to be involved in providing radon related services
